OPERA GUIDE

Every major city in Europe has its own opera house, including Berlin, Munich, Baden-Baden, Stuttgart, Leipzig, Hamburg, Cologne and Bayreuth. Few operas are in English, but it’s easy to follow along with the story if you read the plot outline or the full libretto (script) in advance. Most operas are in Italian but there are almost always subtitles in the native language of the company you’re visiting, and sometimes in English as well. Don’t be put off by the fact that it’s hard to understand the words - the beauty of opera is in the singing anyway, and even if the smaller details escape you, it’s quite impossible not to enjoy the opera, no matter what language it's in. See below for opera houses near you - this truly is an experience you won't forget.
